Voices In My Head (CD Notes)
Don’t think too much about the title of this CD, it came to me and it seemed apt as the voices refer to the vocals in my head that I can’t get out. My lack of a singing voice has been a problem since I started writing music when I was about 16. I’ve had a few stabs at it, but was never really happy with the result, so I just gave up and wrote instrumentals.
Recently, I bought some vocal sample packs and a few of the tracks on this CD are made using those, “Wake Up,” “Dance No.1,” “Dance No.2,” and “Brighter Than Heaven.” The first one was a very old song from the 1990s and the samples just fitted, while the other three were built around the samples. The samples were handy, but very limiting.
However, a few years ago, a company called Dreamtonics produced their “Synthesizer V” AI vocal software. This meant I could create a vocal track from scratch… Just play the melody into the software, type the lyric (syllable by syllable) above each note and choose the vocalist you want, et voila! (OK, not quite et voila, as there is a bit of tweaking), but in the end you have a vocal which is ultra realistic and barely indistinguishable from a real singer. This was a game changer for me and other musicians who can’t sing, as we can now create actual SONGS!
I made a CD back in 1998 called “Lines in the Sand” which was an organ CD to match a music book. I created the “Snowdonia Photo & Music DVD” and a matching CD, “Reflections” in 2004. I also made a downloadable five-track EP called “The Lone Tree” in 2010.
For the past few years I have been writing more Instrumentals, Instrumentals with vocal samples and full vocal tracks. I have been uploading these to my SoundCloud account and then posting them to the streaming services including iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. I’ve been adding these as single tracks, one at a time, since around 2021 and in June 2025 I thought it would be a nice idea to put them on a CD and this is the result. This CD also has the latest mixes.
The cover photos were another use of AI, I picked a photo and told ChatGPT to “generate an image showing voices in my head” and this was the result. The photo on the back was also AI generated. They both made me better looking without having to ask. I love AI!
So, there we have it. If you want more information about the tracks, you can go to my website (QR code on the back of the CD). There is more information on there and you can also download the album. I’m also on X & Facebook as Ian Jeffrey King. I have to use my middle name as there are a surprising amount of Ian King’s out there.
The download contains all the tracks as CD quality ‘AIF’ files, plus all the artwork from the CD in JPG format. The “.zip” file is 505mb in size. The cost of the download is £8.95. When you click the link you will be transferred to the WeTransfer site to make the payment. Thank you.
